Our Mission

At VANCE. our focus is on quality over quantity which is why our collections are offered in limited runs. We share the good days through our conscious design approach and responsible choices.

We have devoted numerous hours educating ourselves about the materials and processes we use for our pieces. The concept of conscious design, responsible materials and ethical manufacturing guides us throughout the entire design process. We believe in transparency and aim to share our decisions and reasoning openly. So, for those who are interested, we're here to share our knowledge and choices. We hope when you put on one of our pieces that your good day gets even better.

ENVIRONMENTAL & SOCIAL IMPACT

We understand the impacts that we have on our environment and we strive to make responsible decisions. Our prioritisation of the natural world and its inhabitants cements our beliefs, while we continue to offset the actions of our business where possible.

As part of our social responsibility, we plant a tree for every VANCE order. By partnering with Ecologi, we are helping towards reforestation efforts one tree at a time, our way of giving back.

OUR PARTNERS

We have carefully chosen our manufacturing partners based on a number of factors, including finish quality, social ethics and environmental responsibility. We are committed to upholding our core values and consider our manufacturing partners as an extension of our business.

Our manufacturing partners have signed our Code of Conduct whilst also guaranteeing their work is free from modern slavery .

We strive for complete supply chain traceability to ensure the same values and ethics are supported and that programs, agreements and codes are exercised and followed.

MATERIALS

The below information gives some insight on the range of fabrics we use. We use lightweight organic cotton fabric for our sarongs and organic cotton jersey for our womens tees. Our organic cotton / linen blend fabric is used throughout our resort wear. As we are only small and still growing, our singlets and mens tees are using conventional cotton. We're still learning and growing and we are not perfect. Our aim is to have all our garments using either recycled or organic fabrics and linen. We hope the below information helps to make informed and educated decisions.

ORGANIC COTTON

Grown without pesticides from seeds that have not been genetically modified. Benefiting the worker's health, the land has a longer lifespan from the chemicals not damaging it and the clothing on our skin is better for us. Still, it isn't perfect as it does require more resources such as land and plants. There is a lot of information out there and after intensive research we believe it is the more eco friendly and sustainable choice which is why we have chosen to use organic cotton where possible.

LINEN

The flax plant requires considerably less resources than cotton or polyester fabrics and can even rehabilitate polluted soil. Just like cotton, linen is exceptionally breathable and absorbs moisture without feeling damp or holding bacteria. We have chosen linen as it is a fabric designed for longevity and it is biodegradeable. The more you wear your linen pieces the softer they become. Why do linen products have a higher price? The flax plant goes through 9 processes, from planting to drying before it is made into a yarn that is used to create our pieces. It is laborious and time intensive process.

LINEN BLENDS

Our Linen / Organic cotton blends have been used for our resort wear for a softer hand feel from the get go. Combining the benefits of both organic cotton and linen, this blended fabric has helped our small business with costs. It doesn't have quite the high cost of 100% linen, but it is still of the highest standard using organic cotton as the blended fibre. A cotton linen blend also creases less than clothing made from 100% linen, so it is perfect to pack into that suitcase.
